Prompt Engineering for Customer Success (Part-1)

For now, we will not be replaced by the recent advances in generative AI. However, those who learn to use AI to become more effective will outperform you…

[hmm - no, I’m not quite happy with that]

[That’s better!]

It might feel like a cliché to include ChatGPT output every time we talk about generative AI, but once you master the art of crafting effective prompts, it becomes an indispensable tool. As I continue to explore and refine ways to integrate AI into my daily workflow—whether to streamline tasks, enhance client interactions, or simply save time—I’ll be sharing the most valuable tips and tricks right here.

Part 1:

Create a Custom GPT as your client’s CEO

I first got this idea from listening to the Hard Fork podcast, where listeners shared their favorite ways to use generative AI. One caller described working with a client where their main contact wasn’t the decision maker but had the potential to influence key decisions. Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t sway this contact enough to get a commitment. To overcome this, they fed content from the client’s CEO into a GPT model and practiced pitching to the AI, helping them refine their approach before presenting it to the client.

Inspired by this, I decided to apply a similar approach in my own role. I started by sourcing publicly available financial reports and end-of-quarter investor meetings for key accounts. I then fed this content into a custom GPT, using it to ask strategic questions about how we could grow our relationship with these clients. The AI scanned through pages of documents, identifying areas where our product or service could align with the company’s goals and challenges. It was a powerful way to uncover new opportunities and tailor our offerings to their future needs.
